- Olinghouse was a late 19th century nevada mining camp. LOC. n39.6572w119.42616, about 8 miles Northwest of Fernley, Nevada. The desk was built sometime between 1899-1902 by Olinghose Camp Carpenter, olsen, for the camp assayer W.F. Peffley. Assayer Peffley used the desk in his daily chores until1912. at that time Peffley moved to Reno. However the desk came to live at the newly arrived in Olinghouse, Mr. and Mrs. George Dallimore's home. The first children used the desk for home and storaged. Then in 1922 the US post office closed for lack of business. At that time Mrs. Emma Dallimore was selected as the camp Post Mistress and the assyer deskbecame the Olinghouse Pot Office. This arrangement lasted until 1931 when all postal service was discoutinued. The assayer desk remained in Dallimore front room intil1963 when grandson, hal Gotelli moved it to Carson City. Lyn and Hal Gotelli have cherished the desk as it deserves for 50 years. Enough; let the desk go to the folks who wu=ill show and cherish the desk as it deserves; a true Nevada Artifact.
