Photocopy of a newspaper article dated April 16, 1921, titled "Dayton Pioneer Passes Away", pertaining to Maria Wheatley Guild. The newspaper is unknown, but likely the Nevada State Journal. Per the article, Maria lived to be 71 years old. She was born in England and came to America with her parents and brother (Thomas Wheatley) when she was 11 years old, and the family settled in Dayton in 1863. Maria married Lucius A. Guild in Carson City on June 10, 1866. They had 11 children, including Clark Guild. Accompanying the article is an article tilted "Dredger Work is Progressing", regarding the Gold Canyon Dredging Co. operation. Also includes an article titled "Dayton News of Interest", which provides brief snippets of happenings in Dayton. it notes that Pete Quilici, Dayton rancher, just returned from a six-month visit to Italy. Fred Johnson, who had been ill, was back at work at the Quilici Mercantile Store. The article also includes several other Dayton residents at the time. |
