Wedding photo taken January 11, 1959, at the wedding of Roy Phillips and Donna Spaletta. They were married for 59 years, until Roy's death. They lived in the Adolf Sutro ranch house on the Minor Ranch. Donna was Delphine Minor's sister. In the photo, left to right back row are Roy's oldest brother, Jimmy Phillips, Del Minor, Bill Spaletta (Donna's father), and Gene Minor. In front are Steven Minor, Roy Phillips, Mabel Spaletta (Donna's mother), Donna Phillips, and Carolyn Minor. Note: Jimmy and Roy came from Arkansas to Bakersfield, CA, to Dayton, NV as farmers on the "Lucky Larger" potato farm (where the five-acre lots are now off of Sutro Road and across from Minor Ranch). The Roy Phillips family lived in the old Sutro house where two children were born - Mike and Karey. When the potato ranch was sold to Al and Enid Billingsley, who developed 300 acres into 5 acre lots of the "Dayton Valley Ranches" in 1958. Lucky Larger beer then leased fields on the Minor Ranch, where Roy continued to farm. In 1963 the company bought land in Lovelock and changed their name to Lucky Livestock. Dick McDougal later bought the farm and renamed it "Nevada Nile". Roy managed the operation until he retired. Donna grew up in Reno, and graduated from nursing school in San Francisco. She was a surgical RN at Carson Tahoe while living in Dayton, and then in Lovelock. She was born in Reno in 1931 and died in Lovelock in 2019. |
